Fundraising & What It Means For Scouting

Ladies & Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that the 4th Offaly Scout Group - Edenderry will be holding their next fundraising event on Saturday 8th June 2013. We ask that parents support the group by participating in this event for just a couple of hours. Please let your scouters know what time slot you would like...

We wish to thank those parents who have helped us with previous fundraisers, ie collecting sponsorship for last year's Flora Women's Mini-Marathon, the Dunnes Bag Pack and Church Gate Collections; without your help we couldn't have done any of this.

Some of the things that your efforts have helped the group with are the purchase of one large three pan cookset, two billycan sets, three trangia stoves, a two ring gas stove, a calor gas cylinger and refil, two gas lanterns, mantles and refil cartridges, one medium sized white table, three tables, six benches, three water butts for use by the cubs and scouts on camp.

We've also purchased a number of items such as reels of blue poly rope for use on campsites and knot tying practice. Without this stuff there would be no scout engineering or pioneering! We've also used a couple of rolls of sissal for use on smaller structures. Let us not forget the purchase of hand tools for use while working on pioneering structures and on camp...

Last year our Annual Camp was the finale of the scouting year. A total of 96 badges were purchased and presented, along with neckerchiefs, woggles & compasses! The list is endless, it goes on and on. As each item is ticked off it seems that another one is added.

Additional programme materials have included the purchase of consumable items such as paper, markers, etc. We have a small selection of programme materials available for each section from beavers (aged 6-8yrs) to rovers(aged 18-26), reference books for use by scouters and miscellaneous programme support materials. We have also provided training and programme materials for all youth members in the first year.

Formal training has also been provided for all our scouters. This has led to the completion of the final stage 6 training for Barry and Pauline, who both worked hard on scouting related projects which were submitted shortly after completion of this intensive two day course. At present they are hoping that their efforts are acceptable to the projects committee at Scouting Ireland National Office...

We have also purchased recruitment materials in the hope of attracting new volunteers to help us run and deliver a full and balanced youth programme throughout the course of the year. So far it seems we've been lucky with this and the results will hopefully be delivered sooner rather than later!

Hopefully this post has answered a few questions and maybe stimulated an interest in volunteering to help us out with fundraising coming up in the near future...
